The unstoppable Higgs! <3
This might finally earn him that promotion to bo'sun...
Higgs may be flapped some day.But today... is not that day.
The same can not be said of his opponent.
Higgins lost his hat! That was a BAD plan!! And now for his rebuttal (and boy does he look *pissed*).
He does? How can you tell?
I knew Higgs was tough, but damn....Do you think he is a construct of a sort? No mere mortal could take a blow like that and still be unscathed.
Depends on what they did to repair him after his last -- adventure, perhaps.
Gods, but I do so love that man. *swoon*
OMG I love that man.
Damn! Higgs needs his own short series! Perhaps a short comic that can be inserted at the end of the next print compilation! =^-^=
I second that. Or perhaps just a few holiday breaks with him.
This is clearly a minion to keep -- one who deals with situations calmly and in a way that causes the least damage to the attacking creature that might be interesting to study.
A minion -- or a Spark without portfolio? What if you had someone with enhanced strength, reflexes, and durability (eg, Jagers or the Wulfenbachs) and did something to him so he didn't go into Jager/hunter/berzerker mode, didn't wind up in the "madness place" that the Sparks get to?I'm not sure what he is -- but I'm pretty certain someone else worked long and hard to get him to be the way he is.
So are those supposed to be shadows in the 7th panel? At first glance it looks like she drew blood, but you can see in the last panel he hasn't got any on him.
I am being reminded at an odd angle of The Man Who Was Too Lazy to Fail. His method and Higgs's aren't parallel, but I think there's a bit of a resemblance.
I love that story.
If he's not still under the influence of some kind of high-powered fix-it serum, it says a lot that Bang was able to injure him as badly as she did. (The goose, too, but geese are nasty.)
Y'know, I'm thinking we didn't put two and two together. That's BANG we're talking about, and he put her down not once, but twice, and injured the second time! I mean, his intro proved he was badass, but it did it so successfully that we didn't pick up HOW badass it was positioning him as being . . .
I am REALLY starting to like this guy.
Join the club. The Unflappable Higgs Fan Club! Our motto? "Quite".
You know, I'm not surprised that Otilla gets a bit...upset here. Higgs is definitely showing that he's a sailor here, being so insensitive as to go commenting on the condition of a woman's legs, hips and (presumably what he gets punched for before he can finish) rear.. ;-)
Lol! You make a fair point here.
hmm. castila's stutter seems to be getting worse.and higgs _does_ appear to know his way around clanks pretty well for a mere sailor. and mere-clanks at that.
mere-clank or were-clank?
Someone is about to get their ass kicked.
And I'll wager it won't be Higgs...
He's preternaturally fast, too. He's been upgraded for sure!
apparently he's the UNBREAKABLE Higgs as well.
Yes. It does seem as though Zeetha made no mistake in detailing him to take care of Otilia. And it also looks as though we will finally get to see him at work.
Whooooo-hooooo! Go, HIGGS!Calm under fire, and, yes, a nice little mystery to add to the rest. Drinks in Jager bars, and is matching Gil and Tarvek at their hearty best and surpassing them...without needing more than a bit of a brush-off. Very, very NICE mystery. (grin)Oh -- occurred to me today. We are all pretty sure Gil will not die for keeps...at least most of us are. But we are also all pretty sure that death or almost-death are in the plot. How many want to set down quatloos that just to keep the parallel structures going, Agatha MUST go at least a short period thinking he's dead, as he thought she was dead?No idea of Tarvek gets a "presumed dead" loop of his own. But Gil's already got the parallel in place, and Lars is the necessary set-up to Agatha's mourning...she's already lost one dear suitor. And the Foglios do seem to love their parallel structures....
Surpassing Gil & Tarvek? Castle/Otilia is not enough a challenge to come to that conclusion.
Getting Higgy wit' it (Na-na-na, na na na)
Oh, SHAME.Edited at 2010-02-17 05:59 am (UTC)
Perhaps Higgs has an ability to manipulate time-flow rates, for his body and clothing. If he sped himself up by a factor of, say, 1000, then impacts and accelerations would be reduced by that factor, from his point of view. The wall would feel proportionately softer to him (and his body would seem proportionately more rigid to external objects).
Okay I've been content to just read and enjoy without comment for a long time, but DANG! Go Higgs! You da man!I think I know my next costume request to the wife. Hopefully I can pull of the unflappableness enough. :p
Ah, if I was a bit younger, and in better shape, I too would wish to portray Our Man Higgs. There is so much to respect him for. He's quiet, polite, and when something must be done, he just does it.Cat Juggling? Suddenly, I'm feeling nervous...
He is too low rank in Klaus' army for Klaus to spend time giving him these kind of enhancements, and it wouldn't explain why he knows the underground of Mama Gika's when it seems that Klaus himself doesn't know about it. I remember that I speculated a while ago that Higgs was the natural son of a Jäger and I think so far this is still the best theory. Either that, or someone of high rank somewhere gone in hiding amongst Klaus' forces.
The problem with that theory is that Jaegers, like Miles Vorkosigan, are teratogenically transformed, not mutagenically. Therefore any woman producing a child with a Jaeger (considering Mama's Jaegerfraulein seem in good shape, apparently it's quite survivable an experience) would produce normal little Mechanicsburgeren.Well... as normal as anybody is in Mechanicsburg.
The unflappable, unstoppable, NOT HUMAN - Mr. Higgs! As in, there is NO way he took her fist, square into his nose with enough force to crunch the wall behind him, and not have a bloody, broken nose, and/ or other damage... He's a either a clank of Van Rijn scale complexity, or a very well made Jaeger/construct. I wonder if any of the Muses were male or hid as males?
But Lady Fox! He's Higgs! A mechanic's mate in the service of the Baron. You think he's going to let a small thing like getting hit in the face by a clank stop him from doing what he has to do? Of course not! And if he bled, it would get on his uniform. Can't have that, don't you know...
Chapter title covering the recently past events and a few more to come:"Otilia/Kestle and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"If I still had a copy of that book to crib from I would SO pastiche it. Yes-indeedy-do I would...
That's it. Higgs is Jager v.2.0! Even has the hat complex!
