Hmm. Is he wondering whether Gil could resist, or whether Klaus could?

Back when Agatha was first taken on board Castle Wulfenbach, did Boris ever see Gil disobey an order from Agatha?

Did Boris recognize the Command Harmonics in Lunevka's voice?

Uh-oh! it is someone 3rd!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fugue_state
Cant connect it with neither Klauss nor Gil. Not even Agatha.

Wulfenbach

In this case the fugue state is referencing when Sparks "get all sparky" and ignore everything happening around them in order to complete their new psychotronically-enhanced vampire squid on roller skates (or whatever other mad science project they are currently undertaking). It really is a classic fugue state - they have no idea about what went on around them at the time.

[The DSM IV Psychiatric disorders definition is not a good layman source of information, or rather, it refers to a specific clinical condition of amnesia, rather than the general state.]

Given that most Sparks can't control themselves when they fugue, it's not surprising for Boris to ask the question as to whether something else could control them whilst they are in the moment.

Klaus seems to have better control than most Sparks, but then again, he really doesn't have that much time to play in the lab given his concerns of Pax Europa. Gil does it occasionally (for example, concentrating about improving the falling flying machine whilst falling from the sky instead of repairing it, and Agatha getting lost in a daze as she concentrates on a project have been a major theme since her blackouts started the whole ball rolling. [The Murderball will return in 23 hours 17 minutes.]

"Hmm. Is he wondering whether Gil could resist, or whether Klaus could?"

It is possible that Boris is directing his questions in order to figure out if either Gil or Klaus is wasped, or if both of them are. He is likely trying to find out who he can trust and who he should help if he can.

Remember, however, it was Boris that revealed in dialog a while back that Klaus only listened to "Princess Ankevna" and could keep him calm. Plus, I think Boris was also there when Gil and Tarvek were talking about the possibility that the Baron was wasped. Boris just needs to add two and two together, and I know he has the brains to do that.

I think we can now appreciate why Boris is the Baron's second-in-command.

As for the your other two questions, I would have to say no, but I'm just going on memory. Just on logic, however, if Agatha ever gave Gil an order and Boris was present, I think he would think that was odd, at very least. I also get the impression that only those that are wasped would recognize the commmand harmonics, but only on a subconscous level. Kaja has said that Klaus doesn't know that Lukevna is controling him, and if you remember Snoug acted like a complete zombie when Lugatha started issuing commands, but went back to normal soon afterward. The only exception was that weird doctor in the beginning that activated the Hive Engine on Castle Wulfenbach - he was aware of being controled. Which seems inconsitant.

AgathaGlare

The Weird Doctor was aware... but then, he wasn't following an instant command in the presence of his Mistress. He was told, "Isn't there something you need to be doing?" Which required him to think, and act outside her immediate vicinity. And, hm, implies that he may have had prior instructions?? Because "shine my shoes" might also count. Although "Airship Domination" is a pretty likely assumption.

he came secretly...
periscope

...and started with a warning. So he suspects the fan is hit, with a missile. The attack on the Vespiary Squad was kind of a dead giveaway.
So, by now his main question is whether it's about Klaus alone or not. And he suspects Klaus plays dumb or otherwise resists his orders.

By "fugue state" I think Boris is referring to what the Sparks call the "Madness Place."

Ceiling Lucrezia IS WATCHING YOU

How many people have the command voice at this point anyway? Agatha has it, but Lunevka doesn't (or at least not completely). Does Zola have it, being a female Mongfish?

And I could totally use an automatic book holder and page flipper.

Posted by: midnightchemist (midnightchemist)
Posted at: July 20th, 2012 07:47 am (UTC)

Or are some of the newly wasped are so with a talior-made wasp that only responds to Zola?

Posted by: murgatroyd666 (murgatroyd666)
Posted at: July 20th, 2012 07:56 am (UTC)

Agatha has it. I'm virtually certain that Lunevka has it. Anevka had it, but she's ... deactivated.

We haven't been given any reason to believe that Zola has the command voice, and there have been occasions when she would have used it if she had it.

It was stated in the novels (if I recall correctly) that Boris has perfect pitch. He might have noticed the similarity of Lunevka's voice to Agatha's.

Hidden challenge

I think Boris neatly eliminated, or at least gave a low priority, to Gil being the one wasped with a hidden challenge test.

When was the wasp made?

One year ago.

Long enough [to wasp Gil?]

Why was it never used? [till the moment the guy got ahead. Or a-headed.]

When the guy answered why, Boris knew Gil wasn't wasped, at least when the Baron said. Which bring everybody in doubt. Gil went in *to save Agatha* when he should be still *unwasped*. He came out tryng to do the same thing.
No change.

Baron, however, went into the hospital, after meeting Lunevka, had Gil arrested and *named the wasp eaters traitors* for no noticeable reason.

Re: Hidden challenge

Hmmm, thinks Gil disobeyed Lunevka in front of Boris ? but i think many do. Lunevka would probably restrain from making everyone everywhen obey, it would show her very strange.

> Gil wasn't wasped, at least when the Baron said.

Why ? Okay, it was not used (approximately year ago) but no one told it was or was not used after that. Okay, Gil was claimed wasped. But still, wast it week ago, moth, 8 months ? Less than year - but still i large timespan.

> tryng to do the same thing
...claiming doing the same thing.

I think Boris should not find a way to assure himself. He should find a way to assure 3-rd chain of command to subvert 1-st chain (Klaus) and loyal 2-nd chain part. He needs coup d'etat. He need clear and assuming reasoning for that. If wasp-eaters could not save themselves, then Boris would not have too. He only has one tiny chance to propose subversion. And everyone else would be. And he should talk all those people into almost suicidal act. His gut feelings would not do. He needs something clear to make everyone listen and follow him.

Re: Hidden challenge

It's less than a year I think since Gil was in Paris, so if it's possible that a Spark wasp was available a year ago, then it's possible that Gil was wasped in Paris, as the Baron said.

If the Vespiaries were defecting, then he had a reason for naming them traitors. We don't know the order of events from Boris's perspective, so we don't know that would appear strange.

It is odd that the Baron listens so much to Lunevka, that is true.

We saw Kraus get infected and the weasels confirmed that Gil is infected. So, I can only conclude that more spark wasps exist. The only question is how many more are there and where are they?

Re: More spark wasps DO exist!

We saw *one* weasel in the hand of a *wasped baron* react to Gil. It is, I think, obvious was using some kind of currupted weasel as a form of putting his son under arrest for believable reasons.

He couldn't very well say, Arrest my son because I feel like it, now could he?
