The door in the previous page has square corners. Behind the weeping person is a window. It very much appears there is only one way in or out of the room.
I'm quite sure the Foglios will alter physical space again as they always do and create additional doors for Tarvek to run through. (The lay out of Mechanicsburg is different every time they map it)
I guess the plot requires the destruction of the wasp weasels.

Not to me. If the round window is north, then the ingress is west and the bug door east.
If you look closely the door to the big weasel room has slightly rounded corners, while the door the wasps are coming in from has sharp square edges. Different parts of the airship with the little weasels in the middle.
