Mittlemind seems to do it on a regular schedule. Snaug's probably penciled it into his day planner. "Tuesday: 7 a.m.: Negative Reinforcement Experiments. 11 a.m.: Lunch with Mother. 2 p.m.: Die."

I've noticed that narrators can be a bit unreliable in this story. I'll believe KB is dead when I see his remain exhumed from that grave - and even then I'll be skeptical.

I'm betting on Higgs, too, but the Foglios have come with surprises out of left field before, so I'm sort of hedging my bets here.
