Urk. By Jove, you're right!

Never mind the Heterodyne speculation, then ...

BUT since Zola is a Mongfish, it increases the plausibility that she would have the Command Voice. So let me do a rewrite:

As a Mongfish girl with the Command Voice, Zola would be a prime target for being captured by Aaronev and the Geisterchicks and used as a subject for mind transfer in an attempt to bring back Lucrezia ... and the Conspiracy would know that. The Conspiracy tends to stay on top of things.

So does that explain why Zola conveniently had a neural trap already installed in her brain so she *couldn't* be taken over by Lucrezia's mind transfer? Involuntary mind transfer would otherwise seem to be a very unlikely contingency to plan against ...

If, and I think it's a big if, the spark wasp was available back in the days of Paris; then Zola's adventures make a lot more sense, she was wasping all the sparks she could find.

However! She should also have wasped Tarvek, and then he would have been unable to beat her to a pulp.

Yeah, I can't believe that the Spark wasps were available any earlier than the story's indicated previously.

Hmm. Tarvek and Agatha were both cleared by the inquisitor during the giant hologram scene. That's also when we found out that Vrin was a revenant.

However ... Why would Zola have wasped Tarvek? He was a member of the Conspiracy, and possibly her future husband. Also, given that there's a chance that a wasp will turn a normal person into a shambling, mindless revenant, would Zola have risked wasping an ally?

Yeah, I can't believe that the Spark wasps were available any earlier than the story's indicated previously.

Tarvek was told by one person that the Spark Wasp was a new creation. Perhaps it was ... or perhaps it was a secret that had been kept from Tarvek. Not telling Tarvek would make sense -- he thinks he can't be wasped because he's a Spark, so the Conspiracy wouldn't want to tip him off that they could control him if they had to.

Not sayin' it's true, just sayin' it's possible ...

Selnikov is our source on the Spark Wasp. He appears to have been more fully trusted in the Conspiracy than anyone else we know to date, and he is one of the people (he and the Jotun Brothers) who retrieved the wasp from Passholdt in the first place. He believes there is only the one copy, and that the wasp is of recent origin.

NOW, that does mean we have more characters to try to worry about--anyone in contact with Snarlantz, and the Jotun Brothers. They may prove to be sources of a leak, and Snarlantz may have actually been working on the project prior to Selnikov's knowledge, giving resources to other factions. Like, say, the Mongfish faction, which has been preparing for Lu's return for some time, as witnessed by Zola and her Neural Trap for Lu-downloads.

We have no way of knowing what the Mongfish faction has been up to. IF the spark wasp is older than Selnikov--and thus Tarvek and Anevka-- believed, then it's possible Gil was wasped by Zola for Mongfish reasons.

But I'm mainly inclined to doubt the story, period. There is too much suggestion that the Sturmhalten/Aaronev faction and their immediate contacts such as Selnikov, Tarvek and Anevka simply did not know until recently of a spark wasp, and believed it to be a unique object.

Good analysis, and more or less where I'm at, even though I've been arguing the case for Gil being wasped.

Still, there are indications that Gil could be wasped ... Are they clues, or are they clever misdirections?

Selnikov (or what's left of him) is on board Castle Wulfenbach. Narrativium says he's there for a reason. Hmm.

I haven't seen proof of Selnikov's presence. I know folks have cited him as being in the War Room, but I can't find him. Can you provide any data establishing that he left the Great Hospital?

I'm still wondering who made it out of the destruction of the hospital intact, when, and with whom...

He was in one of the early (pre-Tarvek) War Room scenes -- the one with the Deep Thinker on the crane thingie, I think.

I've looked. I may be blind, but I have seen nothing that looks like Selnikov to me.

Anyone got a page to show me? If I can see it I'll feel a heck of a lot better about this.

Go to the chapter labled Castle Wulfenbach War Room in Volume 11. On the first page, just behind and to Boris's left is a metal clank holding a head in a jar. It's too small to see much detail; but people are assuming it's Selnikov, come to betray his erstwhile conspirators.

Ok. Possible. If so, though, he's been moved to quite a different "fish tank" entirely. Which in all honesty seems like an odd choice for Phil to make without an explanation.

I won't say "no." But... I'm not entirely sure I say "yes," either? I can see what y'all think it is, and you may be right. But it's visually awfully different.

Comics - Wulfenblimp

Actually... that looks a lot more like the doctor's staff/device which we better see at that link.
